Looking for a little excitement in your life? Want to experience the kind of driving your Porsche was designed for? Come find out! Let our seasoned PCA instructors show you what you’ve been missing. We will teach you the skills required to drive your Porsche or other sports car at its limits in a safe and secure environment.
Electric vehicles and Open Wheeled vehicles are not allowed to participate in any Chicago Region HPDE event. Some events may allow Porsche SUVs (no other marks) if it is explicitly stated in the event description.
The Chicago Region uses several different racetracks for its High-Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) program; from the very scenic and long (4 miles) Road America in beautiful Elkhart Lake Wisconsin to Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois. We also hold events at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, Illinois and Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Michigan. If you have never experienced driving your Porsche the way it was meant to be driven come give our Drivers Education events a try.
The June 2023 edition of Panorama had a great article about what a track day is all about. Take a look at it here.
Your First HPDE Event
If you have never been to an HPDE event, you should attend one of our track days at Blackhawk as your first event. You will be assigned an instructor that will work with you and attend our pre-event classroom via Zoom as well as our classroom instruction at the track.
You should also consider attending our Precision Driving School, also known as Autocross School in the spring. This event will teach you the fundamentals of car control with both classroom and in-car exercises in a controlled environment within a large parking lot. This event is generally held a week or two before our Novice Day at Blackhawk which is always at the end of April or the beginning of May.
PCA’s website has an excellent article here that outlines things you should do before coming to the track and while you are at the track. You should also read the HPDE handbook related to the venue where your event will be held.
HPDE Handbooks
The PCA Chicago Region’s HPDE Handbooks are the place to look for information about:
- General Information & Run Group ID & Car Numbers
- Safety & Run Group Requirements
- Passing Rules & Following Distances
- Flags & Procedures
- Venue-specific information
HPDE Insurance Program
In June 2009, Porsche Club of America and the Lockton HPDE Insurance Program® announced their partnership in delivering affordable insurance to the many PCA enthusiasts involved in performance driving events. The program provides affordable, single-event physical damage insurance for vehicles used in PCA high-performance driving schools.
