Pittsburgh, PA

Event Info PDF

There will not be a Spring Driving Tour in 2019. Instead we will have a Summer Driving Tour. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) is one of two vintage car races on city streets in the U.S. We will be driving to Pittsburgh on Friday 7/19. We will stop for a nice barbecue lunch along the way in central Ohio. We will arrive in Pittsburgh at 6:00 pm or so. Friday night is a free night, nothing is planned. Go out and explore the city!

I have reserved a block of 55 rooms at the Hampton Inn University Center Pittsburgh/Oakland for each night (Friday thru Sunday). The discounted room rate is $139.00 per night plus tax. Same price as in 2016 when we last visited!

The Allegheny Region PCA (ARPCA) runs a great event in Schenley Park (where the race course is....). Attendees park their Porsche’s on a fairway, on the golf course. The parking location is a 2 minute walk to the race course. The ARPCA provides a wonderful catered lunch on Saturday and Sunday right on the golf course. Did I mention that every single fairway will be covered with cars from every imaginable marque? It’s an honest to goodness cargasm! Attendees are welcome to tour the paddock area which is just full of amazing and historical race cars. You can walk right up and touch them! There is free shuttle bus service to and from the paddock.

We will caravan to the event from the hotel on Saturday and Sunday morning. The qualifications/racing is through by 5 or 6 pm each day. The hotel will provide a segregated parking area for our Porsche’s. A washing area is also available for the “concours” diehards!

On Sunday evening, we will dine as a group in one of Pittsburgh’s better restaurants. We will travel by motor coach. The view of the city is remarkable. You will see why they call it “Three Rivers Stadium”! (Ask anyone who has been there....) This event is limited to 92 participants!

We will make sure that you have time to explore Pittsburgh which is a great town that has lost its rust-belt reputation! Great shopping, dining and sightseeing are available.

The hotel has approved a Porsche Club cocktail party in the hotel lobby on Saturday evening/night. So we can take over the lobby and party like it’s 1999! (Unfortunately without Prince.)

Three Friday events plus our two-day Oktoberfest weekend.

The season begins with our Novice Day event on Friday, April 26th. This event is dedicated to the novice driver. This is the event to attend if you are new to the club. We typically have 40 or more novice drivers at this event so in addition to learning how to handle your vehicle; it is also a great way to meet fellow club members. Again this year we will be incorporating one experienced group at this Novice Day event. This group is open to all who have previous track experience but have not reached the Instructor level.

The June 21 and July 26 events are open to novice and experienced drivers. Run groups will be based on driver experience. A novice group with both on track and classroom instruction will also be provided. A Special 50th BHF Anniversary event will be on June 21 - Stay Tuned!!

The season ends with the Oktoberfest two-day weekend event. This is open to drivers with previous experience. No novice instruction will be provided. The weekend event includes dinner party Saturday and pizza at the track Sunday.

Come out for our 3rd visit to Superdawg and enjoy Hot Cars, Ice Cream, and Fun Music. It was a full house two years ago as you can see from the top left picture taken by club member Lee Hogan flying over Superdawg. Last Summer was another great event and I believe if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it.

The Chicago PCA has been given a very rare opportunity to have a private tour of the Farnsworth House. Club member Adam Kern brought this venue to my attention over 18 months ago. We have been working very hard with the Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) to put this event together.

This new Concours event at the Farnsworth House designed by Mies van der Rohe offers a perfect setting for photos of beautiful Porsches with a historic home in the background. The Farnsworth House wears the icon badge proudly. An experimental concept for residential living at it’s time of build, it drove an era of design to a new level that still reads as modern today. Not far beyond the architectural metropolis of Chicago, only a short country drive away, lies this weekend retreat of a masterpiece along the Fox River outside of Plano, Illinois.

The Chicago Region invites you to join us for our 24th annual Drivers Education weekend at GingerMan Raceway, which is located just outside the scenic Lake Michigan resort community of South Haven, Michigan.

We hope you can join us for one of the season’s premier DE events.

GingerMan Raceway is a challenging 2.21 mile road course with 11 turns, a number of elevation changes, and plenty of runoff areas. Not only is it fun to drive, but it was built with optimal driver safety in mind, which makes it a great choice for less experienced drivers.

Collectors' Car Garage
2500 W Bradley Place
Chicago, IL

Event Info PDF

You may have noticed I have set up our last 3 Porsches and Pastries at their last year’s locations.

Since the weather can be iffy in November, one of members Adam Kern suggested visiting Collector’ Car Garage on the West side of Chicago. CCG’s Facilities make a perfect venue for iffy weather because we can gather outside in their large secure parking lot if the weather is good or we (members, not cars) can head inside their 60,000 sq. ft. Dust-free Climate Controlled Garage if the weather turns bad.

Aaron Wallace, Head of Membership Development will be conducting tours of CCG.
