After you have become a very proficient track driver in our Drivers Education program you might just want to go to the next level which is “Wheel to Wheel” PCA Club Racing. Even though the rules for a Club Racing license require only 12 days of race track driving experience, you should probably have several times that number. As much fun as Club Racing is – it’s not for everyone! But for those who have always had the desire to drive a racecar and to compete, this is one of the best club racing programs anywhere.
There is generally a class for virtually every Porsche ever made from the earliest 356 to the latest GT3 RSR and everything in between. In PCA Club Racing, there are several different types of classes. The Production Class is exactly what it says – it’s based on a Production street Porsche. The only modifications are those for safety equipment, and some minor modifications to suspension, brakes, exhaust and R-compound racing tires. The next type of class is for Prepared Cars. Generally, these cars are based on Production cars, only a higher level of modification is permitted. And last are the full-on race cars which run in the GT classes. Many of these cars started life as a street Porsche but have been extensively modified. The GT classes also include Porsche factory built racecars such as the GT3 Cup and RSR type cars.
If you have any questions regarding this program you can email one of the following two people: Susan Shire, who is the PCA Club Racing National Licensing and Program Coordinator. Susan’s email address is pcaclubrace@aol.com. You can also email our Chief Driving Instructor, John Ruther. John’s email address is john@northstarmotorsports.com.
